Welcome back to Terrible Tuesome Tuesday, where two sisters tell you a haunted story and every tale comes with a side of family drama. I'm Ashley. I'm Simone. And today's episode is the Lizzie Borden House. It's today the second. It is the second. I still haven't decorated, which is just like mind-boggling to me.
SPEAKER_00Well, to the listeners, it's like the week before Halloween, I think. Yeah. So you'll be decorated by then. Well, I hope so. I hope so too. I decorated because my children, my one child who's obsessed with Halloween, said, When are we gonna decorate? And I did it while he was at school and he came home and he was so excited. Oh and now I have to turn off 15 different fucking lights every night. So can you come decorate my house? Because I just don't have the motivation to do it right now. No. Okay. I can't. So I have a funny story, it's very quick. Okay. Uh the first week that the podcast published in September, one night it was like the middle of the night, and I like vaguely remember this, but not really. Um, the fire or the smoke alarm in my oldest kid's room started going off at like midnight, and Chris got out of bed and went and like turned it off, and then he went to go turn around and walk out of his room and it started going off again. And like I kind of remember that happening, but I took a sleeping pill that night, and so I wasn't like dead to the world. And uh the next morning we were like brushing our teeth in the bathroom, and he said, Your podcast brought ghosts in here, and I said, What happened? And he told me, and I was like, Oh, I kind of remember that. And he said, And no one woke up but me. So your kids just slept right through it. Yeah, it was in the oldest one's room, and he just slept through it. Which is a far cry from when he was a baby, and if you looked at him from the other room, he would wake up. No kidding. So apparently, if there's a fire, we're all gonna rely on Chris to us.
SPEAKER_01Um, I do agree though, I feel like since we've started this podcast, like I've always had some stuff happening in my house, but it has like really amplified since we started this podcast. So just because we're talking about you doesn't mean you can that you're welcome. Yeah, and you're gonna sage or something. I am going to sage.
SPEAKER_00I meant to do it yesterday, but I didn't. So I think there's a better one. It's called like Salo Ponto, Salo Ponto uh nope, I'm butchering this.
SPEAKER_01I know what you're saying. I but now that you said it wrong, I can't think of what it is.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I hear that's actually like more.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh but I don't have that. I only have Sage, so I don't even have that. So also I got you that cat's eye from the fair. I know, it's on my desk. Okay, it's supposed to ward off bad spirits and bad energy. Well, maybe you should like show it to them. I don't know if you know this or not, but this is supposed to keep you away.
SPEAKER_01I'll call for a meeting as soon as we're done here. Maybe they don't know that you have it. Maybe that might be it. Yeah. I didn't show it off to them, so they're like they're completely in the dark, in the dark about it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00What is our story today?
SPEAKER_01So our story today is the Lizzie Borden house in Fall River, Massachusetts.
SPEAKER_00I'm really excited for two reasons. One, I've obviously heard the Lizzie Borden story before, but like I don't remember anything from it. Um, and two, I love a good East Coast story.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah. So tell me all about it. Everyone knows the story of Lizzie Borden, right? She took an ex, gave her mother 40 wax.
SPEAKER_00Yes, you've at least heard jump rope song Father 41.
SPEAKER_01Why is that a kid's song? I don't know. Why is why is Ring Around the Rosie a kid's song? Yeah, they're all London Bridges. Yeah. Anyway. So it was a super sweet song for kids when they were jump roping. It was very sweet. Um, but yes, that's basically what happened. If you're not familiar with her story, she she grew up in a very wealthy household with her father, her stepmother, and her sister in the late 1800s, and they lived in one of the most affluent neighborhoods in Fall River, but her father was super frugal, and they didn't even have indoor plumbing, which was weird for the wealthy at this time. So, wealth over cleanliness, I guess.
SPEAKER_00Okay, this is a stupid question, but so is it like an outhouse situation at that point? Um, I think so. Okay. That would really suck in Massachusetts in the winter.
SPEAKER_01In the winter, yeah. Yeah. I mean it would suck no matter what. So anyway, they were a fairly religious family, with Lizzie herself being involved in a lot of Christian groups. She believed that her stepmother Abby only married her father for his wealth and even called her Mrs. Borden. Oh, where's her mom? Uh, I have never in all of the time that I've like researched Lizzie Borden or watched movies about Lizzie Borden or whatever, have ever heard about her actual mom. I think she died, but I'm not sure. Well, she's for sure dead now. Well, okay, thank you. Months before the murders happened, there was a lot of tension that had been growing, especially because her father, Andrew, had gifted real estate to Abby's family. So Lizzie and her sister demanded that Andrew sell them their childhood home for one dollar, and then they quickly sold it back to him for $5,000. Oh, wow. I don't really know why the exchange of property in that light, like, why not just ask your dad for $5,000? Right. So that's that's what I asked dad for. Yeah, exactly. So the whole family except Lizzie fell violently ill with food poisoning from mutton that had been left out over several days. But Abby thought it had been poisoned by someone Andrew had previously done business with because no one in town liked him. Apparently, he was like a pretty shrewd businessman and he was not well liked amongst the town folk. Well, you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. Yeah, but I think if I remember correctly, he like screwed a lot of people over. It wasn't just that he was like a shrewd businessman. I feel like he screwed people over, but I don't know. I could be totally wrong.
SPEAKER_00Also, Lizzie's mom died when she was 22 months old from uh some sort of spinal uh disease and from uterine congestion. What the hell is uterine congestion? Uh it sounds like like your bladder can't uh relieve itself. Oh.
SPEAKER_01I don't know, but that sounds awful. Yeah, it does. Again, everybody in the family got really ill from food poisoning um from mutton, but Lizzie didn't get ill from that. And it was discovered later that Lizzie had purchased pressic acid the day before the murders. What's that? So it's apparently some kind of poison. Lizzie. Yeah. Like, why do you need that at all?
SPEAKER_00I don't know what Lizzie Borden looked like, but I can only picture Christina Ricci from when she played Lizzie Borden.
SPEAKER_01You watched that? Yeah. Oh my gosh, I did I feel like that was like some crazy lifetime movie that nobody maybe we watched it together.
SPEAKER_00I think we did. It was a really, really long time ago though. It was more about like her trial, if I remember correctly.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um no, she was definitely not um a looker, but she had like a crazy look in her eyes in every picture I've ever seen.
SPEAKER_00Do we ever Okay, do do we talk about like if she actually did this or not? No. Was she acquitted? Uh she was acquitted, yes. Okay. I've been listening to a lot of true crime podcasts lately about um and like documentaries about people who were falsely accused. And I used to work for a judge, I was a clerk for a judge, so I've sat through more jury trials than like a lot of attorneys at one at some point, you know what I mean? And so I know that most juries are or most trials are based on eyewitness testimony and character testimony. Um, but it is really insane how people are found guilty of crimes with no physical evidence.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I uh I've always said if I if I was absolutely not guilty, I would never want a jury trial.
SPEAKER_00Fuck no, that's the rule. If you're guilty, you want a jury trial. If you're not guilty, you want a court trial. Right. Or a bench trial, whatever they call it in that state. Um, because listen, I'm not trying to be rude, but jurors are insane and unpredictable. And I've sat through jury trials where I'm like, this motherfucker is the guiltiest motherfucker I've ever seen in my life, and it comes back not guilty, and you're like, what? Like, I I know what the instructions were, I know what you were gonna you what you're supposed to do. I don't understand how it came back not guilty. Um, and then and vice versa. There's two things that you never bet on, and that's voters and jurors.
SPEAKER_01I also just not to be an asshole, but I feel like the law should not be interpreted by 12 people who don't have law degrees.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's not technically interpreted by them because they have instructions that are interpreted by the attorneys and the judge. Okay. And the instructions give you very clear like direction of what like if you find that this person did this, then you come back with a guilty verdict or whatever. Um, but uh the problem is that one, everyone has bias, no matter how much you say you don't, and two, um, it really doesn't matter what evidence you present in trial, if someone is just like they heard one thing and they stuck with that, that's what they're going with, and so they're gonna like return whatever verdict right they have already by the time they get to the jury room, the majority of people have already made up. Um so it's very it's it's a pretty flawed system. And it's honestly like watching these documentaries and these podcasts, like people have been sitting in prison for 30 plus years based in for murder with no physical evidence. Right. And it's you know, when you have like misdemeanor charges and you don't have physical evidence like for assault, right? That's like that's really common. This is a murder case. Right. You there's no weapon, there's no body, there's no blood, there's no fingerprints, there's no footprints. Like a murder case without physical evidence is crazy to get a conviction on. But it still happens. No DNA, nothing. That's fucking crazy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I at that point it just comes down to like who's the better attorney. A few weeks before the murders, there was a family argument, and Lizzie and her sister left the house for a vacation. When they returned, Lizzie stayed at a rooming house for a few days before returning home. Oh, she was big mad. She was mad mad. And can you imagine every time you have a family argument, you're just like, fuck you, I'm going on vacation. I would be arguing all the time.
SPEAKER_00I would start arguments with Phil every day. I would there I mean I do start arguments every day with my husband, but I don't get to go on vacation afterwards. Right. I just have to sit around and I just go in my room and pout.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I just have to clean furiously.
SPEAKER_01So uh Lizzie's uncle John stayed at the house the night before the murders to discuss business matters with Andrew. He left after breakfast the next morning but had planned to return before lunch. Another thing that's important to note, Lizzie and her sister were often described as homely, like I kind of said before. And so they didn't have a lot of suitors in their social class.
SPEAKER_00That's gotta suck.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Any that were below their social class, Andrew chased away because he figured they were just after his money. So these are probably some lonely girls sitting out there in Fall River, Massachusetts. Alright, but I just looked up a picture and uh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Look, if she didn't have the crazy eyes, she might not be so unattractive. She's so I have this problem too. She's got wide shoulders. She's spelled like a linebacker. Yeah. Um it's also that like middle part halfway to the back of her head that's not really doing her a lot of favors. But yeah. I how sad would you be that you and your sister are so ugly, you don't have any suitors.
SPEAKER_01And that and your dad chases away any that might be coming because he's like they're just after my money.
SPEAKER_00But also, if my dad was rich, I wouldn't want to get I don't if he dies, I don't want to share that money with my husband.
SPEAKER_01That's true. But probably I'm guessing in this time period, like they won't get the money if they're not married. I'm guessing. Yeah, that's probably true. I mean, I could be totally wrong, but they would probably go to his brother. Uh exactly. So Lizzie was apparently unhappy that Abby would be the one to inherit his fortune. So she was pissed off about that. And I don't know what the family argument was that caused her to go on vacation, but apparently she eventually came back. And um when Lizzie and her sister went to do their regular chores, Abby went to make the bed in the guest room where John had stayed. It was then that she was struck in the head with a hatchet, which caused her to fall to the floor, and then her killer struck her 17 more times at the back of the head, killing her. So this is where things start to get a little tricky because there are small but significant differences of accounts. They're not important to this podcast because we're talking about ghosts here, so I won't go too deep into the actual trial. I just want to give you a quick background. So Andrew returned home from his walk at around 10.30 that morning, then went to lie down on the sofa for a nap. At this point, he was struck 10 or 11 times with a hatchet. Poor guy. He just wanted a little night night. Yep. Again, as much as I'm obsessed with this case, I'm not gonna go into the specifics of it. I'll just say that Lizzie, who was 32 at the time, um was charged with their murders, but was found not guilty and lived to be about 66 years old. I did not know that she was 32 when she did this. Yeah. Girl. Full grown adult. You are like Or she may not have done this, who knows? Who uh Why still living at home? I think that was the norm, unless you were married.
SPEAKER_00I think you stayed at home until Well, to be fair, if Dad was rich, I wouldn't have gotten married and left the house. No way, man. I've been like, Dad, are we gonna go on vacation this month? I right? Yeah. Dad was the best roommate. He really was. He really was, except for the farts. Oh god. But he was a real he was very clean. He cooked dinner, he went he did grocery shopping, but um that was only helpful if you liked potato chips and hot dogs. And Cokes. Yeah, and Coke. I do love a Coke. But he was the best roommate. He was the best roommate. He would just watch Tombstone and uh Shawshank Redemption because it's on TV every two hours. Back to the future. I love Back to the Future though. Yes, but he has seen that movie 874 times, I'm pretty sure. I love how you and Phil would always make fun of him because he would like have it on DVD, but he would never watch, he would only ever watch his like movies when they were on TV.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. He did this with every every movie he owned them, but he would only watch them on TV, and he would this would drive me crazy. He would start the it he if they were like a half an hour in, he would start watching them, and it was like you can't start a movie a half an hour in, you have to watch it from the beginning.
SPEAKER_00Well you can if you've seen it 14,000 times. I guess that's true. Oh, remember when he got obsessed with that show that it it talks about like weird deaths? Like someone's like mowing their lawn and like a thousand ways to die or something. He became obsessed with that show.
SPEAKER_01I got obsessed with that show too, and now I'm afraid of dying a thousand different ways.
SPEAKER_00Uh and then he also got obsessed with ridiculousness with Rob Deerdick. He did? Yes, he loved that show.
SPEAKER_01I remember he got um uh really into intervention at one point. He did, yeah, and I I would be like every night watching it with him, like, why are we watching this shit?
SPEAKER_00And I'm sure he was like, Well, Simone needs to be on the show. Don't stop smoking weed.
SPEAKER_01Um also fun little fact about our dad. I told him that Simone and I started this podcast. And then later on I asked him if he had heard about something I don't remember.
SPEAKER_00Well, no, first you said, Do you know what a podcast is? Yeah. And he was like, Hell no.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. He was quite proud of himself for not knowing what a podcast was. And then I said something about like uh our our second mom's dad died.
SPEAKER_00No, this was way before then. No, this is so you had the conversation and then um Gail's dad died, and so you called him.
SPEAKER_01And I called him and I told him because this man at one point in time was like another father for our dad. And I called my dad to tell him that he had passed away, and my dad said, Did you hear this on your podcast?
SPEAKER_00Yes. In fact, there is someone who lives in our town and they go on their podcast every time someone dies, and we listen to it all the time.
SPEAKER_01We just listen to their names. So I just think it's funny that Simone and I have put so much work into this podcast, and our dad has no fucking clue what a podcast is.
SPEAKER_00Well, neither does your husband because he keeps telling you that he's gonna call in. That's true.
SPEAKER_01That's true. Phil does know what a podcast is. I don't know why he thinks he can call in, though. Um, so let's get into the hauntings of the infamous Lizzie Borden house. So this house is now a bed and breakfast and offers daily tours. So there have been probably hundreds of accounts of shadow figures, footsteps, crying, and poltergeist activity. And some believe a lot of this is the actual family themselves. I do remember a long time ago, I watched some ghost hunting show where they were at the Lizzie Borden bed and breakfast, and a psychic was asking Lizzie supposedly if um she had committed the murders and she couldn't get a straight answer. So I don't know if it's actually the family that is haunting the place, and also I don't think Lizzie is there because she lived to be 66 and she like lived in a house with her sister, like away from them.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, but maybe it's like the Veliska axe murders, or like if she did it, then she, you know, yeah, her energy gets like pulled back there because it was so horrific.
SPEAKER_01I just some something in the the look on her face and all every picture I've ever seen tells me that if she did it, she doesn't give a shit and her energy is not back at that house.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, I don't think that by looking at her, she's like, I don't give a fuck. Yeah. So I did she get the money?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I think she did because after they were killed, her and her sister bought a house like around the block around the corner or something, and they lived there for uh Lizzie lived there until she died, but I think that she and her sister got in a big fight and her sister moved out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, she inherited a fortune worth an estimated $300,000, roughly $7 million to $10 million today following the murders. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_01See, if I were single at 32 years old and had seven million dollars, I would stay the fuck single. Like, how do you know if somebody is after you just for your money or not? Oh, for sure.
SPEAKER_00And also, like that it's mine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'm not sharing it with fucking fuckhead men. Yeah, I'd share it with you.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I would share it with you too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I would keep control of it. Oh, I would probably let you I there's no way you would go through ten million dollars so fucking fast. I'm not saying I wouldn't, because I do love uh I'd be shopping. You know, you're a bougie bitch. I am definitely bitch. I would just want like you you would spend yours on useless shit from Amazon. At least I would have like fucking $10,000 purses.
SPEAKER_01Listen, I have not bought anything off Amazon except for a face cream in a long time.
SPEAKER_00I just don't believe you.
SPEAKER_01It's true. I actually there have been times where I sat on Amazon looking for some something to buy and was like, nothing is just satiating me right now.
SPEAKER_00I gotta say though, like retail therapy works because sometimes like I forgot to take I like ran out of my um antidepressant like a couple months ago and I kept forgetting to pick it up and I was really depressed. Um and then I uh went shopping and I was like, I feel so much better. Yeah, it does help. Well, it's bad when you don't have any money. I don't I shouldn't have been spending money, I didn't have any. See Charge it. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Apparently, charge it was the first term that I ever learned when I was little. Bat tracks. Yeah. Um, apparently we were at Target, and this was back in the day when people said cash or credit, and I guess I just I was with mom and grandma and dad, and I did this little arm motion and said charge. It and dad was really upset that they taught me that.
SPEAKER_00Well, knowing what we know about our mom now, she also had a little charge it problem, right?
SPEAKER_01No wonder we're fucking out there spending money we don't have. Listen, I've gotten way better about not spending money that I don't have, but I still have like a laundry list of very expensive purses that I want.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and like perfumes and like makeup and jewelry and you know, yeah. When this podcast gets big, we're gonna be real bougie. Don't buy Chanel, she was a Nazi supporter. I don't even want Chanel. I actually like I'd probably just still buy Kate Spade bags.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. See, I'd be all about the Louis Vuitton. Yeah. And um, there's a green bag that I want so bad that's $30,000.
SPEAKER_00I would get some red bottoms. Those are, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I would they're I've heard that they're really uncomfortable, but I have too, but I don't care.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I wouldn't even wear them, I would just have them.
SPEAKER_01Exactly, yeah. And maybe like take some pictures in them. I have a closet full of shoes that I've never worn, so that tracks. All of my shoes are tennis shoes. And I work in an office. Let's get back to it. The house is now a bed and breakfast and offers daily tours, so there have been probably hundreds of accounts of shadow figures, footsteps, crying, and poltergeist activity. And some believe a lot of this is the actual family themselves. And by the way, two guests have died in the house since becoming a bed and breakfast. How? Listen, tell me more.
SPEAKER_00Why were they murdered?
SPEAKER_01I I don't think. You don't know. You don't know.
SPEAKER_00I think I heard that it was like a heart attack. Well, maybe they got scared to death.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Anyway, so it's believed that Andrew Borden wanders the parlor and his bedroom. Some claiming that his spirit is grumpy, and guests have often leave money to appease his spirit so that they can get a good night's sleep.
SPEAKER_00I ghost after my own heart. Yeah, I want to be that ghost. Yes. I want to be even in death. Please leave your money for me. Yep. Also, I would be grumpy too.
SPEAKER_01I would too. Jesus. And I would be appeased if you left me money. Yeah. Mm-hmm. So it's also said that he has punched visitors in the back. Like seems like I'm not gonna leave you money if you're gonna be physically rude. Well, maybe it was people who didn't leave him money. It could have been. So Abby Borden is believed to be roaming the second floor guest room and hallway while Lizzie supposedly haunts her former bedroom, often crying. I don't know what the hell she's crying about.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I mean, you made out pretty good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So the basement. How do they know it's Lizzie crying? I don't know. Apparently, like psychics claim that it's her.
SPEAKER_00Is it Barbara from the Sally House?
SPEAKER_01God, I hope not. Uh so the basement where the murder weapon was supposedly found is notorious for heavy, uneasy energy, and people have said that they've seen ghostly faces there.
SPEAKER_00I'm sorry, I'm a bad listener. So what so the m the stepmom was killed in the guest room. Upstairs. And where was the dad killed? In the parlor on the sofa. Okay.
SPEAKER_01And then she Oh, that's right, he was napping. Or whoever killed them supposedly hid the hatchet in the basement. That's not a very good hiding place. No. No. Interesting. Um people have said that they've seen objects moving, experienced drops in temperature, and slamming doors. It's also believed that the house is haunted by two children who were murdered next door to the house by a different member of the Borden family in 1848. And it's said that people hear them laughing. What a twist. Right? So these Borden's are just fucking crazy. Who what Borden? I don't know. Like I said, I'm not very good at research. That's crazy. How old are the kids? I don't know. Ashley. Why are you here? I just show up and record. Meanwhile, I'm reading like six books per episode. That's why my episodes are significantly shorter than yours. Um, okay, so it's also said that the fire alarm goes off once in a while, like at your house. Oh shit, maybe it was John at my house. And Drew.
SPEAKER_00Oh, John was the brother.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And it always goes off at 3 a.m. And then apparitions are often caught on camera. So in 2022, two guests stayed at the house and they had an unexplained experience when doing a ghost hunt. They were on the first floor of the home when the light suddenly went out and a closet door unlatched itself and slowly began opening on its own right before the light came back on. So this was on video and you can actually like see it happening. I love that. Yeah. One woman said they were in the guest room and heard ruffling going on before she felt like a flame had moved along her back while she was sitting on the bed.
SPEAKER_00Would you rather feel hot or cold? Paranormally. Hot. I hate being cold. Yeah. I have rain odds phenomenon, so. Yeah. See? I would rather be hot. Yeah, you wouldn't even know if it was cold. I would. Do you know what rain odds is? Yeah. So I would definitely know if it's cold. Because my fingertips and my toes turn white. But you're already cold, so you wouldn't know. What? Do you not get cold with raynods? It's yeah. You like if it's cold outside, and you go outside and like now cold air has hit your body. Yeah. Like my fingertips and my toes turn white and numb. Yeah. So if a phenomenon happened that was cold, it would turn my fingers white and numb.
SPEAKER_01You would already be cold. Oh, I guess if you weren't already cold. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Jesus Christ. What is wrong with you today? I don't know. Did you take your ADHD medicine? No, I didn't. All right. Listen, this is a business that we're trying to start here. I need you to take it seriously enough to at least be fully medicated.
SPEAKER_01Okay, next time I promise. Thank you. Christ. Um, one woman said they were in the guest room and heard you can do it. I already read this part. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Where is your ADHD?
SPEAKER_01It's on the table. Can you please take it?
SPEAKER_00This is why you could never live alone. If something happens to Phil, you're gonna have to move in with me just so people can be like, did you take your medication today? Okay. Give it about 15 minutes. This episode will get a lot better.
SPEAKER_01One guest arrived.
SPEAKER_00She was just bragging to me about how she has two degrees. I have no idea how that happened.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, okay. One woman said they were in the guest room and heard like a ruffling going on before she felt like a flame had moved along her back while she was sitting on the bed. Later that night, a shampoo bottle kept falling over over and over and over again in the bathroom. I would be so annoyed. One guest arrived earlier than the others and had been had begun communicating with the spirits, asking them to come forward. Later he went back to his room and found a doll on the bed that wasn't there before. No. Yeah. I don't like moving dolls. No. He believes this was the spirit of the children trying to play he believes this was the spirit of the children from next door trying to play before putting the doll back where it belonged in the bedroom next door. I would not touch that doll. No, I would leave it alone exactly where it was and I would sleep on the floor. Um, so a Redditor once slept in the attic rooms, and even though she says she doesn't believe in ghosts, she admitted that the experience was creepy. Right. She was having nightmares most of the night before she finally woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. She was extremely thirsty and wanted to get up and get water, but was paralyzed by fear. While lying awake, she heard a ball bouncing across the floor on separate occasions, and another guest another time caught video of a ball bouncing, bouncing in that same room.
SPEAKER_00I don't play with my own kids. I'm sure as hell not playing with no ghost kid. I do play with my kids, I just don't enjoy it. Oh, you do too. I mean, I love rough housing with my kids because I basically get to beat the shit out of them and they just are like, ah they love it. It's hilarious. I will like literally fling them across the room onto the couch and they just like are laughing their heads off. I'm like, that felt so good.
SPEAKER_01But that's the I wish I had a child to do that too, just to get some aggression out.
SPEAKER_00Well, they'd cause the aggression.
SPEAKER_01That's true. Another guest who stayed with the owners before it was a bed and breakfast heard the sound of keys jangling like they were being carried up the stairs. One woman was lucky enough to stay at the house completely alone and kept hearing knocks coming from the maid's room. Well, on the phone later that night, she heard walking in the room above her like someone was pacing the floors. So remember, she's alone in the house. Nobody else is there. Then she heard sounds like someone was standing next to the armoire in her room, then suddenly heard footsteps in the hallway. She also said she was seeing light anomalies in her room, like little pinpricks of light that were showing up in different spots. And she said she felt like something was appalled that she was there. So after hearing unexplained noises and voices, she finally left at 1 30 in the morning to go sleep in her car. Oh, wow. Yeah. Like you'd have to be super creeped out to go sleep in your car. Like Do people pay to stay there?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's a bed and breakfast. Oh, my husband would be too cheap in bed. I don't give a fuck what ghosts is in here to stay the nightmare. Get your ass to bed. He'd be yelling at the ghost, like, I paid for this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I paid to hear this shit. I feel like Chris would be like, you better start haunting me because I paid for this. Oh, 100%. You better scare the shit out of me. Um, okay, so this is where you're gonna really love the the where the story goes. Okay. So chip coffee. Chip chip hurried. I don't know if you know who he is. Simone does, but he's a psychic who is just the absolute best. The best psychic.
SPEAKER_00Like just hands down, I think that he is probably the world's the world's psychic.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And on top of that, he has a cute little accent, and he it just makes everything so much better when he relays what the ghosts are saying in his little accent. Ryan. So he was brought into the house blindfolded by another investigator. He's always blindfolded when he goes into places.
SPEAKER_00I love it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And he immediately said, All of the sudden, I'm very agitated and upset. There's a scent of being out of control. I'm being hit by every kind of emotion. I'm trying to get a grip on my emotions, and I just can't. I hear stop, leave me alone.
SPEAKER_00What do you what was that look for?
SPEAKER_01I'm just saying, like, when chip coffee says that it's happening, it's obviously happening.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I don't think that her victims had time to say anything though, since she hit him in the face. That's true. But But maybe there.
SPEAKER_01I I don't think the initial blow to her stepmother killed her. So she may have been able to say and don't doubt what Chip Coffee says to mom.
SPEAKER_00I'm not doubting it. I'm just saying. Um did he do did he say anything else?
SPEAKER_01He said the spirit was an angry woman who was just getting angrier and said she was screaming, don't help me, and did not want to speak anymore.
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_01Um, they had an EVP.
SPEAKER_00Can you imagine being a ghost and people come to your house so often that you're like, I'm fucking done? Oh, right. Like you can't speak to anyone else because you're dead. Yeah. But so many people show up that you're like, I just want to be left alone.
SPEAKER_01God, that would be me. I like people would come in and I would just be like, Fuck man, I just wanted to like go to bed. Oh my god, I would be so upset if I was a ghost and I had no one to talk to. Oh, not me. I would be like, oh, it's so quiet in here.
SPEAKER_00I'd be going to like ghost parties. I'd be throwing ghost parties.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. You would. I'd invite all, I'd invite everyone. Um, so they do have EVP evidence of this spirit stating she was Lizzie, although she called herself Lizbeth, which is what Lizzie changed her name to after the murders, after the trial.
SPEAKER_00Oh, Lizabeth or Lizbeth? Lizbeth. Okay. Why? That's an that's an unfortunate name.
SPEAKER_01It is. Um, the voice on the EVP then said, I'm lost, and don't say anything. It's not me. Hmm. Um, when asked if Lizbeth missed anyone from her past, the EVP said, You get used to it, I'm upset. That is a long EVP. It is. Um, the investigator then asked, What are you upset about? to which the EVB EVP replied, Stop, stop it alone. I tried. Hmm. Yeah. I just don't buy that that's Lizzie. No.
SPEAKER_00I don't Why would she be there? Uh exactly. Like she obviously didn't have any sort of like connection with her stepmom and dad. So it's not like Yeah. Why would you go back there? If you were if you were her, like, wouldn't you?
SPEAKER_01You know? If I were her, there yeah, I wouldn't unless I was like spiritually forced to go back there, I wouldn't live my eternity in that house.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say maybe that's like her hell. Yeah, like you have to go back and you gotta talk to all these people. Right.
SPEAKER_01Um, another set of investigators were in the maid's group and asked if anyone in there wanted to play when their equipment said hide and seek. Or hey. Love hide and seek. Yes. But I'm not about to play with a bunch of ghosts I can't fucking see.
SPEAKER_00No, but I love playing hide and seek because when you and when it's your turn to hide, you just get to lay there.
SPEAKER_01Um, another guest made contact with a spirit called Steve. Steve. Who said the go the guest and his friends' names and started on a barrage of misogynistic slurs. Steve. So I don't know where Steve came from. But he's apparently rude.
SPEAKER_00I don't think I've ever met a Steve who wasn't kind of an asshole, to be fair. That's true. I I I still like them. I don't like this Steve. No. Steve sounds like a fucking asshole.
SPEAKER_01So, Simone, would you stay in the house alone?
SPEAKER_00I've been thinking about this because I knew you were gonna ask me if I would stay in this house. And I think I would because I don't know why, but I don't get the feeling that any of those spirits are like malevol malevolent. No, I don't think so either. And um I've seen like TikToks and stuff of the house, and I do get a creepy vibe from it. Um, it's also just like super fucking old, so it's like, you know, it's like the old refrigerator and old couches and stuff. Yeah. Uh would I stay alone? I mean, yeah, probably.
SPEAKER_01Okay, would you use like just your psychic sense, or would you use like ghost hunting equipment to elevate your experience?
SPEAKER_00Um yeah. I thought yeah, like one of those boxes that says words. Yeah. What are those called? I don't remember. I don't either. But I yeah, I'd maybe use like an app or something.
SPEAKER_01Not a real actual piece of equipment, just an app on your phone.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, if I could afford it, like we talked about, I don't have any money, so um yeah, I think I would. I I think I would because I think this is a really good um s environment for getting uh like confirmation and stuff from ghosts that I don't think are out to do any bad.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_00Would you?
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, for sure. I feel like oh, I don't know if I would stay alone because I always say, like, oh yeah, I watch like ghost adventures and I'm like, oh, I could totally do that. But then it's like, you know what? You know that eerie feeling when you're like in a dark place and you just have a flashlight and it's a place that you don't know, and like you don't really want to move your flashlight because you don't know what you're gonna see in that light. Yeah, like that creeps me out, and so it's like, yeah, I say that I would stay alone, but I probably wouldn't make it very far.
SPEAKER_00Well, and like in ghost shows, they they're like completely in the dark, right? But you wouldn't have to be. You could keep the lights on all night. I mean, what fun is that though? Oh.
SPEAKER_01You gotta feel scared a little bit.
SPEAKER_00I just don't think I would be scared.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well ghosts don't really it's not ghosts that scare me, it's just like being in the the unknown in the dark, I guess.
SPEAKER_00I think it would also it would creep me out to be in a place where I knew like murder happened. Like brutal murders. Yeah, and if you're like you know, psychic enough, you can feel that uh like bad energy. So I could see that. Um I would keep the lights on.
SPEAKER_01See, that's like a no-go for me. I feel like you have to have the lights off.
SPEAKER_00You just make up arbitrary rules. That's not no one said that you have to keep the lights off. Okay, well you and Zach Baggins can go together and you guys can get your fire sign energy together and really ramp it up.
SPEAKER_01And he can yell at me to go do all of the scary shit while he stands back. Yeah. Um I do have a question though. Like, do uh from what you know of the actual murders, which I don't know may or may not be a lot, do you think she did it? Yeah. See, I don't know if I think she did it, but I think she knows who did it or she helped them do it.
SPEAKER_00The whole like buying poison thing is pretty damning. That's true. Um, and then you gotta think about like if you're a juror and you have the murder weapon, which I assume had blood on it, um, I assume they couldn't do like finger printing, but like this person knew the house well enough. And that house is not it's like not it's old, so it's kind of like a maze, right? Like there's like yeah, it's not like a new house that has like a clear setup. So that person knew the house, they knew where to hide the axe. I don't know, I guess if I was coming in from outside and I was gonna murder someone, I guess I would h hide the axe in the house, and if I lived there, I would hide it somewhere else.
SPEAKER_01So this is what gets me. Um I watched a documentary about this a hundred years ago, it feels like, but the dress that Lizzie was wearing that day only had like one tiny little speck of blood on it. You'd think if you murdered somebody, two people with a hatchet, you would be covered in blood.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's true. Well, I mean maybe she like covered herself as much. Oh, she could have. I never thought about that. Interesting. Yeah. Uh I'm gonna look into this and I'm gonna I'm gonna get a better opinion on whether or not she did it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It's an interesting it's interesting to hear about like everything that happened during the trial, I guess you could say. So if you're interested in um learning about that, I would I would definitely say go for it because like I said, it's it was an interesting trial.
SPEAKER_00I thought you were gonna like recommend a book or something, but then I remembered that you're just going off the cuff. Um also I would like to point out that in every single episode I have heard one of your cats, one particular cat. It's always every single episode. And he was in here yelling, and I put the microphone out to be like, you have something to say, and he just stared at me and was like, Oh, now we're quiet. Got a little stage fright. But and every episode you hear, ma.
SPEAKER_01He is a mouthy motherfucker. He walks around all day just yelling, and it's mostly because he wants treats.
SPEAKER_00He's just he's so cute though. He was astray. They like Ashley and Phil lived in this house like downtown, and I came up, like was going into their house one day, and this black cat comes up and he's so chatty. He's just like, Mow, bow, bow, bow, bow, bow, and I pet him.
SPEAKER_01And he was he kept he would always stand. Up on his back legs to make people pet him. Yes, it was so cute.
SPEAKER_00Um, and then he moved in. Yeah. I don't think he I don't think anyone welcomed him. I don't think anyone said, Hey, would you like to stay with us? Would you like to be part of our family? He just said, Well, I'm here now. Yep. And the funniest thing to me is that he was an outdoor cat. Like he obviously was like abandoned or something. He was literally a feral outdoor cat, like killing mice and squirrels and birds all day. And then when you moved and you took him with you, you moved into an apartment and he j he never looked back. No, he became an indoor cat and was like, I'm good with this. I remember you said I'm really scared Damone is gonna get depressed that he can't go outside. And he was like, No, I'm good. I'm in my retirement.
SPEAKER_01Every once in a while, especially because he liked to hunt when it was raining, and if it's raining, he'll yell to go outside on the patio. That's so cute though. He's like, I'm good. Yeah. I'm good here. He's definitely an a fat indoor cat now. He is. Anyway.
SPEAKER_00So I have a really good what I'm gonna do when I die. And it fits the theme.
SPEAKER_01Okay, what is it?
SPEAKER_00I want to go back to 1912 and get on the Titanic. Like as a ghost, not a person, right?
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00And I wanna go through the Titanic and I want to see what it looks like, and I wanna go to the rich people and see what they are doing, and I want I like I want to go all over the Titanic in its prime. And then I want to go to the Titanic when it's at the bottom of the ocean.
SPEAKER_01Ooh.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Cause you can't obviously you can't do that now. Right. Well, you shouldn't with a PlayStation remote anyway. For fuck's sake. No, okay, but I did watch a TikTok reenactment of like what it would have been like to be in that submersible, and it gave me terrible fucking anxiety and panic.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, there's no way in hell you couldn't pay me enough to get on that thing.
SPEAKER_00Fuck no.
SPEAKER_01No. Even if you like guaranteed that I would come back safe, I'm not going on it.
SPEAKER_00No, I'm really claustrophobic. I'm incredibly claustrophobic. You could never get me in that. You couldn't get me in like a regular size submarine, let alone that fucking thing. That fucking tin box with the fucking Xbox remote.
SPEAKER_01Um, I think what uh based on this episode, the first thing I would do when I w died is find Lizzie Borden and ask her what actually happened.
SPEAKER_00She's not gonna tell you. Well somebody knows somewhere. Someone somewhere knows. Um I would maybe ask. Oh, I'm gonna go find Andrew or Obi. I was gonna say I would do I would ask people who got murdered.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. And hopefully I won't be, you know, if uh if uh Lizzie did do it, hopefully I won't be in the same place as her, which is likely hell.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah. I was like, well, she can't kill you. Like if you're already dead. Um She also just doesn't seem like a fun time. She really doesn't I don't want to waste my death with people who are boring or weird.
SPEAKER_01Well, also it seems like she was just like kind of angry, like buying poison, getting in arguments with her family, leaving on vacation afterwards, and then moving in with her sister and kicking her sister out, or her sister leaving because of the arguments. Uh she just seems like a very argumentative person. I bet she's a Taurus.
SPEAKER_00I bet she's either a Taurus or a Capricorn. Okay, well you look and look it up. Okay. Um also what are you so angry about? You get in a fight and then you go like on vacation? What are you so angry about? I mean, sh it's she's a spoiled rotten child. I guess, but I j you know, I don't have any money and I'm pretty happy. I do find out. Oh my god, she's a Leo.
SPEAKER_01What what day was she born? July 19th. No, that's not a Leo, that's a cancer.
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_01You sure?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm right on the cusp of Leo. Oh, a cancer. See, that also kind of makes sense though. My best friend's. Super sensitive. Yeah, real sensitive. Hard on the outside, soft on the inside, real emotional. Um real defensive. Yeah, like a crab, you know, like yeah. I my best friend's a cancer. Um and she's fitting. Yeah. It's fitting for her. Yeah. It's like a tarot. If she was a tarot card, it would be all cups.
SPEAKER_01Get that up here now.
SPEAKER_00See what happens when you take your medication, you're funnier. You're on topic, you can think clearly.
